Professional figures in the wine industry
Have you ever wondered about the professional figures in the world and the differences between them?
Women and men who work every day in the service of their passion, we tell below about their tasks and duties.

Agronomist

“The technical agronomist of vineyard plant evaluation and design.
This is the figure who, in addition to coordinating the evaluation and design phases of vineyard plantings, is responsible for its management with particular reference to the pre-planting phase, which determines and conditions the entire production process by preparing the “roots.” The management of this initial phase directly affects the vine’s vegetative cycle and, consequently, the quality of the final product.”
In our case, the agronomist, Ilaria, also serves as the farm manager.

“Specifically, this figure carries out the pedoclimatic analysis of the area (i.e., the formulation of hypotheses on the different possible cultivation alternatives), analyzes the cultivation alternatives, and chooses the type of vine and the vine training form.

Once the suitability of the vine to the pedoclimatic context has been verified, it is necessary to make a judicious choice of the vine and its rootstock, paying attention to the varieties that best interact with the growing environment and that can most easily achieve the best ripening conditions.

The agronomist, in addition to coordinating and supervising the work of the winemaker, advises on knowledge of the physical and structural characteristics of the land and soil and of the agricultural area of expertise.”

The cellarman
The cellarman, Our Edoardo is the one who works in the winery, at the heart of the production process. he oversees all the operations of transforming the grapes themselves into wine, from crushing to fermentation.

He has a thorough knowledge of the production process, and specific technical knowledge regarding the operation of all equipment used in the winery. He/she interfaces constantly with the winemaker in establishing processing procedures and standards, with particular reference to the management of fermentation tanks and temperature control.

The winemaker
“He or she works both among the vineyards and in the winery and is the person who controls all stages of production, from cultivation to grape harvesting, from winemaking to bottling, and to the storage of the wine itself.

The winemaker’s main task is to make sure that the production of wine is done in a safe and correct physical, chemical, organoleptic and legislative manner. He works constantly with the winery manager and participates in product development activities with the company’s strategic management and sales and marketing functions.”
In our case, the winemaker has long been a figure from outside the company, Andrea Paoletti.

The brand ambassador
“He is the person on the front line responsible for communicating and selling the product. He is the ambassador of the company and promotes its products, history and strengths in the market. He has technical knowledge about the product itself, excellent interpersonal and negotiation skills. He is the evolution of the figure of the “salesperson,” who in the modern world of wine has become the key element of contact with customers and, as a result, has a strong sensitivity to understand market trends.”

The reception manager
“He is the person who opens the doors of the house. He or she has the main task of accompanying visitors to the winery along a unique experiential path that contributes to guests having a moment to remember in time.”

The sommelier
The sommelier, while being on the sidelines of the wine production process, brings together passion, professionalism and the culture of good wine. His mission is to taste and make people taste wine, providing the tools to distinguish, appreciate and judge it. But that’s not all, the sommelier’s tasks in fact diversify and require in-depth knowledge of vines and their cultivation, winemaking and aging techniques, national and international oenography, and wine-food pairing.
